East Yorkshire Open Studios 2015!

I am very excited to be taking part in the East Yorkshire Open Studios this October for two weekends!

Preparation is in full swing! A little paint here and a little tidy there, but most importantly some creativity and printing! I am so excited to have two full weekend at home with hopefully some visitors to pop by and discuss screen printing with!

You can find myself and the very talented Jenny Morton right opposite each other! Along with Rosemary Abrahams also located in Bridlington.

Dylan has been the first favourite I have been printing! I have also been experimenting with these hand printed fabric pieces and making them into bunting!

I love printing and have some exciting events I am attending over Christmas!

East Yorkshire Open Studios is on the 10th/11th 17th/18th of October! You can pick up a brochure locally in Bridlington at the Victoria Mill or please drop me a message :)

Getting Green Fingers This Summer!

This summer I have been very busy in my garden. Last year, it was my first year practicing and finding out about my new home. I have a number of trees but last year only saw a plum or two.     This year the tree has blossomed and I have mountains of plums. Which my lovely nan has been busy making them into jam!

We have also found out we have an apple and pear tree. There is quite a few pears but only a
couple of apples. At the weekend I also discovered there caterpillars amongst my willow tree. First I found one, then I discovered 5, all eating away at the leaves. After researching I do believe it is a hawk eye moth. I will keep an eye out incase they change. I was surprised how huge they was.
I also felt lucky when I discovered this clover hiding behind my herbs!

I absolutely love my garden, it is definitely a new hobby I love. Its such a shame summer is coming to an end but I will still continue to spend time tidying when I can. This year I have managed a crop of blackcurrants, potatoes, peas, runner beans, onions, and some raspberries and strawberries. We have just planted a blue berry bush so hopefully this will be growing and produce a few in the future :)

CCAD Degree Show 2015!

It is great to see everyone's work and even more so this year. Textiles took over their entire department, displaying work around the print rooms and the dye lab!

Loved seeing all the printed lengths hung! Very inspiring! Great use of layering colours! I appreciate the hard work as I've been there myself!

Absolutely loved the print rooms being full!
It was great to see how the students were able to spread out and use the space!

It was great to see the work displayed in the area it was created! I think the public will enjoy seeing the print rooms!

It was a gorgeous day as always and there was even a cheeky photo booth! Cannot believe it's been four years since I left! I still love creating and printing!

Summer is on it's way I think!

It's actually getting warmer now which means I can get outside in my studio! I have been busy also getting the veg in my allotment area! Let's hope everything grows well like last year!

I am hoping to use my garden as a focus point for photographing my work. I love flowers and nature. The garden is changing daily!

Here is the early developments with the veggie patch :)

Dylan is also ready and waiting for the sun! He is very good at understanding when I'm working in my studio and normally sunbathes outside :)

More posts on the developments on the veg soon!

Tour de Yorkshire!

May started very exciting for Bridlington with the Tour de Yorkshire! Blue and yellow flags decorated the majority of the town!

We was just around the corner from the shop waiting for everyone and Bradley Wiggins to fly by! In which they all did so fast!

Can you spot him!

It was so fascinating watching it on the tv. I have always watching the Tour de France as a child so to see them cycling around familiar places was fantastic.

Even though it was a few weeks a go now. It's still nice to see the decorations :)

Professor Elemental at The Victoria Mill

On Sunday we had out tea-party extravaganza! I am completely over whelmed how well it went! Even if I may say so myself! I hope if you came you did too!

The selection of food brought together by Katy Wheelwright and family from the Organic Bakery was simply amazing! So amazing I think I ate one of everything and completely forgot to take a photo!

The mill was decorated in British memorabilia and wartime artifacts. It was hoping everyone felt proud to be British and from Bridlington.

Aswell as the food and professor we have a fab selection of entertainment. This is included the very glamorous Diamond Darlings, two local girls from Bridlington! They oused charm and their voices was so captivating it was a lovely delight whilst enjoying the delicious food.

The Brew Mill and Tiger Lillie's hold the fort behind the bar! Speciality ales and fair trade wine went down a treat whilst some beautiful teas were also on offer!

It was a complete accident their choice of clothing! I was slightly jealous as they all looked fab!

We also had battle of the bands with a Kazzoo and was entertained by the gentle sound of the ukulele. Then we had the Professor himself! He definitely exceeded my expectations.

He even brought his hairy gorilla friend Jeffrey round! The audience got up to some horsey business, galloping around the mill with the Professor.

He even managed to get me on stage for a little song which was equally funny! Everyone joined in with his fun and laughter and he certainly got us all engaging with his witty lyrics. My heart melted when he got 8 year old Archie to perform with him on stage. Archie had wrote his own little rap and remembered it to sing to us all. Talent in the making!

The night was curated my Jeff Wheelwright and I would like to thank him, Katy and their family, The Brew Mill, Tiger Lillie's, and The Priory for pulling it all together. The musical talent and to everyone who came. Let hope it's the start of more things to come! :)

Lots of Goings on in Yorkshire.....

Things around Bridlington is changing and bicycles keep popping up around the town. We are very excited that as part of the Tour de Yorkshire, Bridlington is its starting point with the even more fantastic Bradley Wiggins cycling on our doorstep. It makes me feel very proud and excited to be from Yorkshire and Bridlington!

We are also excited to share with you The Victoria Mill's very own cycling club! They call themselves the Victoria Vikings. Obviously because they think they are Vikings :). The group has started to grow and meet regularly for rides along the Yorkshire coast and countryside.

Open for both male and female and abilities, the Victoria Vikings are hoping to grow. With what better way to start your Sunday with a cycle and a coffee from The Brew Mill. :)

Check out the Victoria Vikings Facebook Page:

So that's what have to look forward in May, what about April! Another exciting event is taking place in The Victoria Mill in association with The Priory, The Little Organic Bakery and The Brew Mill present Professor Elemental's Tea Party Extravaganza! Bringing you something British and eccentric! I can't wait! Especially excited for the food yum!

The Victoria Mill hopes this is the start of many interesting events in the future. Feel very privileged to be involved. Click on the link to find out what we have been listening to in preparation for the Professors visit :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iRTB-FTMdk

So what else have I been up to! I am eagerly waiting for it to get warmer so I can get outside in my studio! I have ventured out to produce a little personalised birdie cushion which is something I shall be advertising soon to do hopefully. It was certainly chilly outside washing my screens. Dylan didn't want to join me :)

Do you think they are a good idea? Going to have a little more practice with my screen with the letters on.

With it soon to be April lets hope for some warmer weather, lots of drawing, printing and flowers blooming!

Creative finds from Goa!

I could have bought so many bold bright and colourful items in Goa. Especially these beautiful fabrics which were only £1.50 a meter! I have no idea what I want to make with them yet. I did think a very bold patchwork quilt. They would make some lovely summer dresses or even brighten up a room as a cushion.

This was one of my favourites. I love how it isn't always perfect and there are slight areas where the print has bled. I certainly can't wait to get designing again. I've never done a design with just motifs and paisley shapes but I would love to have a go.

I also bought some heavy woven fabrics which unfortunately I do have a cheeky snap of. These were from what I called an Indian Liberty. It was full of amazing antiques, high quality fabrics, carpets and some very sparkly jewellery.

I also took along with me a printed tote bag, I wanted to give it to someone I met on my journey. I met a lovely lady called Anita who travelled each day to work at a beach shack on the beach. She helped them out and when all the sun loungers was full, was able to start selling her own souvenirs or paint peoples nails. She left around 7 each day, travelled home and returned the next for 9am. She sometimes has to hide her items from the coast guards as they would confiscate them. I thought it would be a good bag for her to hide her belongings in.

We also visited one of the busiest markets in Goa. It was also on for nearly the entire night! It was fantastic! Talk about late night shopping. Lots of different pieces of art and souvenirs. Leo really liked these carved masks. At first I found them extremely scary but then after time I really liked this white one of the elephant god. It seemed to have more detail than the rest and we chose to buy it. We also bought a couple of prints by two other modern artists.

I loved this sign that I came across on one of the artists stalls. It is known in India to haggle a good price but I completely agree with this statement :)

Cannot believe its been a month ago now! I still love looking at the photo's!
